Connecting Talent to Opportunity Through the Community Champion Program

At Grow Cedar Valley, we understand that attracting new talent is crucial to our region's continued growth and vitality. We are committed to making the Cedar Valley a destination of choice for individuals looking to relocate. One of the most recent initiatives we’ve embraced is the Community Champion Program, part of the broader efforts led by ThisIsIowa.com to attract and retain talent in Iowa.

The Community Champion Program is designed to create connections by linking prospective residents directly with local experts who can provide real-world advice and support. Stephanie Detweiler, PHR, Director of Workforce and Talent at Grow Cedar Valley, is at the forefront of this initiative. Whether it’s offering information on job opportunities, helping navigate housing options, or sharing the unique lifestyle benefits of the Cedar Valley, Stephanie and other champions provide the expertise and resources to support and guide potential new residents in making their decisions.

One of the program’s greatest strengths is its focus on building meaningful connections based on individual interests and needs. Community champions go beyond simply offering guidance on job opportunities or housing; they take the extra step of connecting potential new residents with others in the community who share similar interests. Whether it’s through professional networks, volunteer opportunities, or shared hobbies, these connections help new residents feel welcomed and supported as they transition into life in the Cedar Valley.

The impact of this program extends beyond simply answering questions. It’s about creating a genuine sense of belonging and making the transition to a new community as smooth as possible. For those who choose to make the Cedar Valley their home, the support doesn’t end once they arrive. Community Champions remain a resource, helping new residents integrate into the community and build their network.

Since the program’s launch in June, it has proven to be a vital tool in our talent attraction efforts. Over 1,200 individuals have already shown interest in moving to Iowa by filling out a form on ThisIsIowa.com, and Stephanie has personally connected with 40 of them.

As we look to the future, we are excited about the ongoing success of this program and the positive impact it will have on our community. By building these bridges, we are not only attracting new talent but also laying the foundation for a stronger Cedar Valley.
